Le Village miniature
(Trooz)
The storm of
22 July 2009
It's 22 July 2009, summertime... yet a storm is about to hit the Miniature Village. The force of the winds and the hail caused extensive damage to the village infrastructure. It will take several weeks of work to erase the traces of this extraordinary meteorological event.
The hailstones were the size of a one-euro coin, something never seen before. When they smashed into the Village's facilities, they broke a lot of equipment.
Place du Roi:
Street furniture destroyed, numerous impacts on the roof, Museum sign damaged.
Maison Arnaud:
Street furniture destroyed, damage to building (broken window).
Police station:
Building overturned, structural damage.
Destroyed street furniture
Illuminated signs:
A few signals detached from their masts. The sign posts held up well.
Numerous unhooked and sometimes broken road signs.
Interventions and repairs:
Once the good weather returned, we had to take stock of the damage and plan the actions to be taken to return to a normal situation: where were the emergencies? What could wait?
Inventory of damage, cleaning of roads and making the site safe.
A measure to protect certain light signals that have been badly hit by hail.
Repairs in workshops and on site.
After a great deal of effort...
The Village is coming back to life and has regained its colour. Phew!
Having said that, the experience gave us food for thought about the quality of the equipment deployed on the site. That's why the idea of using copper for the street furniture, signposts and signal masts was adopted.
