Stone distance bollards
December 2022
It was after several trips to work that I became aware of the existence of this beautiful distance marker on the RN 35, kilometre 3. It was in the middle of a road that was a little lost on the vast Ougrée steelworks site.
An investigation was launched to identify the manager of this road. To my great surprise, it turned out to be under regional management, although it was the town of Seraing that gave the go-ahead for the removal.
We're going to need a lot of resources to carry out this work, because the bollard is particularly heavy; it was only after it was removed that we realised that there was as much stone underground as on the surface.
Help was provided by Louis Frésart Jardin, who mobilised a lorry and a mini excavator. Establishment of a marked-off work area...
Once the perimeter has been secured, work can begin.
The bollard has been saved and can now be returned to the MuSé. It is very likely that without this intervention, this witness to the past would have disappeared in the very extensive developments planned for the site.
