ELSA low-pressure sodium streetlights
September 2022

It was pure chance that brought this project to fruition. It was in Ougrée that I came across these lights from another era. They were being used in a building at the steelworks complex, now demolished in October 2023.
An investigation was carried out to identify the company responsible for the deconstruction. The Wanty group was contacted and agreed to dismantle the equipment before the building was demolished. The low-pressure sodium vapour lamps are original: the blast furnace ceased operations in 2009 and the site was deserted in 2014.

Once repatriated to the MuSé, these lamp-posts underwent intensive cleaning... which was difficult because of the presence of a solid layer of grime from the iron and steel industry. Particular care was also taken to avoid damaging the enamel coating, which was still in good condition.

Identification was not easy. According to the MuSé's "public lighting" consultant, they are Elsodia street lamps from ELSA (Herstal)... Admire the pink colour when they are switched on!
