The Village miniature
(Trooz)
Example of street lighting renovation
July 2024: as it does every year, the Miniature Village will be carrying out renovation and embellishment work on the site. These works may concern buildings, pavements, signage or a specific area of the site. Here, we're going to look at the renovation of the public lighting at the Village roundabout...
In this part of the Village, the street lighting is at the end of the network, it has become inefficient over the years and its appearance needs to be reviewed. The only element we are going to keep is the lighting column.
The four candelabras and their lampposts are dismantled... As the roundabout is no longer lit, the speed limit has been set at 30 km/hour. The holes that appeared after dismantling are marked out.
The light poles are cleaned and taken to the workshop:
The old poles (2010) have been shortened and fitted with a 22 mm diameter copper base.
All the parts needed to manufacture the new lampposts are being prepared. The aim is to draw inspiration from the Schréder group's ‘Villersoise’ street lamp, a copper lantern that has equipped the streets of central Liège until 2024.
The new light sources are connected to electrical wires and already fixed to the base of the future lantern.
Each floor lamp is then assembled... This also includes painting in gold (imitation copper).
The posts were also modified... A base was fitted to widen the lower section, and a two-tone finish was chosen for the paintwork: black on the upper section and gold on the lower.
In addition to the work in the workshop, a worksite was opened on the site. The underground electrical network had to be reinforced by installing a new line with a direct link to the central control station.
The final stage in the renovation is the installation of new lighting on the Village site.
The objectives of improving safety through better ground lighting and improving the aesthetics of the equipment have been achieved.
2- Renovation of Avenue du 15 Août:
The first thing we noticed was that the lighting had broken down, the poles were damaged and the basins were broken.
The idea was to replace all this equipment by making a new, aesthetically pleasing lamp post around a 'ball' bowl.
First step: find the base for these "ball" basins... It comes from an electric garland. These spheres are first worked on a little to eliminate the part that is useless for the new project.
The idea is to use only half of the sphere. To do this, you need to paint the top part. In these photos, you can see how the spheres are prepared and painted.
Preparing the LED light sources. Each source is then mounted on an axle that will support the transparent sphere.
Here's the finished luminaire. It's almost ready to be relocated on the site.
Relocation to the Village site:
After removing part of the faulty luminaire, fit the new one.
Finally, new paintwork and an electrical test.
